Article by BodyKore on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009
Filed under: Fairtex, Jenna Castillo, Muay Thai, San Shou, Shotokan KarateWe are proud to welcome world champion kickboxer, elite instructor and cross-fit trainer Jenna Castillo to Team BodyKore.
Jenna is a proud Mexican-American who was born on Cinco de Mayo. She began studying traditional Shotokan Karate at the age of nine, earning her black belt through the Japanese Karate Association. While still in high school, Jenna decided she wanted to go into full contact fighting. Through a chance encounter, she met Cung Le and began training in San Shou (a form of Chinese Kickboxing) under him. She won multiple titles in two weight classes. Jenna then moved to Fairtex to train in Muay Thai under the legendary Ganyao Fairtex. Jenna still trains and teaches at Fairtex. In addition to Ganyao, her trainers are Mark Tabuso and Geroge Tsutsui. This team has guided Jenna to a memorable year that includes an IKF World Title, a WCSC World Title and a fight at the Playboy Mansion.
Jenna is very involved in the fitness industry, teaching at multiple gyms including Rudi Ott’s Unlimited Kickboxing and Brian Schwartz’s Undisputed Boxing and, of course, Fairtex. She has been teaching CrossFit at CrossFit Unlimited in Milpitas for the last two years. She is Level 2 certified and loves the intensity she finds there.
Jenna has a wide variety of interests outside the gym. She is fueled by Starbuck’s and Sprinkles cupcakes. She loves opera and Metallica. Jenna’s favorite movie is Elf with Will Farrell, which she has memorized and watches daily throughout November and December. Yosemite and Disneyland are her favorite getaways. Jenna is a Christmas freak. For her, it is the “happiest time of the year”. She is most proud of the fact that her apartment placed first in last year’s decorating contest.
